Artsy Fartsy Friday : Love Me Two Times

Friday, December 12, 2008

Recently, I've been reading a lot of poetry. Annie Sexton, e.e. cummings, Baudelaire... you get my drift. However while I was reading, for some reason or another, I couldn't get out of my head this painting I saw at the Frankfurt Museum of Modern Art in Germany. It was a 1964 pop art painting, We Rose Up Slowly, by Roy Lichtenstein. Here it is:

Now what I find interesting is something I just recently found out about concerning his art. Apparently, Lichtenstein's work isn't so "original." In fact, he downright copied his subjects from comic books. It's pretty fascinating how artists steal from one another. If you're interested, here's an article on Lichtenstein's copy cat habits and here's a side-by-side comparison of the art.

In other news, only 9 more days until Hanukkah, 13 until Christmas and 14 until Kwanzaa! Obviously, I'm excited. So, in the spirit of holiday fun, I bring to you a Santa cartoon that I thought it was kind of funny. Enjoy!

P.S. Because I've gotten a ridiculous amount of emails asking me about New Moon...

I've been told that Chris Weitz is reportedly in talks to be the new director. Mind you this is the same Chris Weitz who did the Golden Compass.

You know, that movie with the talking, fake-looking polar bears...

That's all I'm going to say.

P.P.S. Here's a great site for New Moon info. Click here.
